Tuesday Travels

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

This Tuesday was a little more laid back than our usual rendezvous across the city.  We spent the afternoon at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  But knowing us, of course it was anything but laid back.  We bring the fun wherever we go.

It wasn't even five minutes into our trip that my sunglasses decided to fall into the toilet.  Totally gross.  After a good ten minutes of scrubbing and sanitizing, we were off.  Our first stop was the news stand for lotto tickets.  Sam's trying her luck and playing the mega millions!  While she picked her numbers, we made a friend.. shout out to Skinny Man!

Then we took what felt like the longest cab ride ever over to the museum.  I have to say that I'm the kind of person that goes into a museum for one thing and then dashes right back out.  {Just because we're art students, doesn't mean we like to spend our free time marveling at statues and ancient paintings}.  But I actually found myself enjoying it. Big shocker.  I almost wish we had more time to walk around and see more exhibits.  The museum is truly beautiful.

The time passed pretty quickly and before we knew it, it was time to head back to class.  We got stuck in traffic but paid no mind as we marveled at the amazing shopping as we rode down 5th Ave.

So, maybe our Tuesday wasn't as thrilling as usual, but sometimes its nice to just have a relaxing afternoon.  Overall it was a fun time :)

Spring Wishlist

Sunday, February 26, 2012

We've been really lucky with the weather this winter.  Especially these last few weeks when it was so warm and bright.  It's such a tease though and it makes me want Spring that much more!  But since it feels like Spring is coming sooner than scheduled, I put together some things I'd like in my closet this season:

1.  High-Low Chiffon Skirt
2.  Marc Jacobs Notched Cat Eye Sunglasses
3.  Floppy Hat
4.  Essie 'Crewed Interest' Nail Polish
5.  Pastel Colored Skinnies
6.  NARS Semi Matte Lipstick in 'Schiap'
7.  TopShop's Moto Coral Dip Dyed Hotpants
8.  Pink Primrose TOMS

What trends are you following this Spring?

Moving Day

Saturday, February 25, 2012

So you may or may not have noticed that this blog has been redirected to a new host site.  I had gotten feedback from some artsy designer friends who all agreed that the page lacked excitement.  {As someone who goes to design school, why didn't I pick up on this?  Fail.}

So I decided to move everything over here to blogspot.  Luckily I was able to transfer all of my previous posts over, but you can still visit them
here for old time's sake.

I did like the pastel color palette that was going on and felt like it created a nice, soft mood.  So I decided to stick with a similar set of colors, but brightened it up a little and made it more lively.

I tried about a million different color schemes, but after going through endless combinations of typefaces, color swatches, and font sizes, I think I finally found a nice balance of simplicity with a slight hint of edge. So do you like the new look?  Tell me what you think!

P.S., all of my followers, don't forget to re-follow!

Tuesday Travels

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Every Tuesday during our two hour break inbetween classes, my friends Priscilla, Sam and I usually use the time to venture off..somewhere.  Why not take advantage of the city when it’s right at our fingertips?  So every week we do something different and make a trip out of it.  Some past Tuesday events include spending all our money at Sephora, braving the swarms of Giants fans at the parade, and getting fun little makeovers by Polyvore.  Last week we went to lunch at Max Brenner’s for Valentine’s Day..yum!

This Tuesday we decided to go shopping around SoHo.  Obviously we had to stop into Dash to scope out the store {just in case any Kardashian’s were around}. From there we dipped in and out of different shops and boutiques, ooh-ing and ahh-ing at the storefront window displays.  Of course we had to check out each one!  We even found a cute little cupcake shop that we had to try.  Can you guess what kind we got?  Red Velvet, of course!  On our way back we stopped into BRGR for a quick bite before heading back to class.  Check out the fun beads they gave us for Mardi Gras!

L.A. Candy

Sunday, February 19, 2012

Reading just isn’t something I like to do, so it’s a very rare occasion that I actually find myself in the mood to read a book.  But over the past two weeks I decided to start on Lauren Conrad’s L.A. Candy series.  It’s a fun read for anyone who was into watching The Hills.  The books wrap around fictional characters who are based off of Lauren and her co-stars during the show.  I’m currently on the third one {Sugar and Spice} and after this I’ll be eagerly anticipating the release of the first book in her new series, The Fame Game, coming out in early Spring.  Lauren will be touring once the book comes out, so I definitely want to go see her when she makes it to NY since I missed the last one.

Pucker Up

Saturday, February 18, 2012

One of my best beauty discoveries has been EOS Smooth Sphere Lip Balm.  This is way beyond the typical tube of cherry chapstick.   It comes in a variety of flavors, and I’ve tried them all but my favorite is Sweet Mint.  It creates the perfect tingle right away so you know it’s working to soothe your chapped lips.  The packaging is so fun, and its such a conversation piece.  Everyone is always so surprised to find out that this little green ball that im whipping out is actually chapstick.  It’s 95% organic and 100% natural, and as an added bonus it smells refreshingly sweet. You can pick one up at any RiteAid, CVS or Target, or just order directly from their website here.

Tip:  Stick it in the fridge for a few hours or leave it in the car on a cold winter day.  The coolness will give your lips an extra zing and it feels amazing (:Image

Red Velvet Heaven

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Last week, I came across Taste and Tell, a blog that shares fun and delicious recipes.  What caught my eye about this blog was that the writer dedicated a whole week to Red Velvet recipes!  Each day she posted a different Red Velvet themed dessert, which I of course got so excited about, being a big fan of red velvet myself.  But cakes and cupcakes are the only red velvet desserts I’ve ever tried, which is why my mouth dropped to the floor when I noticed these Red Velvet Donuts!  This is a recipe I’m definitely going to have to try.  And they’re baked instead of fried (score!) which means I don’t have to feel too guilty eating them.

Any of these recipes are perfect to try this weekend, with Valentine’s Day right around the corner.  The Red Velvet Crepes would make the perfect breakfast in bed to serve your Valentine, and check out the Red Velvet and Strawberry Trifle too; it looks like it could be the perfect romantic dessert to share with your sweetie after dinner.

Fresh-Faced & Radiant

Sunday, February 5, 2012

Like any other girl my age, I am obviously no stranger to makeup.  Personally, it’s my favorite part of putting together a look for the day.  It’s so fun to try on different styles, colors and shades for different occasions.  Even though I do sometimes love to wear a really dramatic look, my favorite makeup palette for an everyday wear is to just go simple.

A mistake that I think a lot of girls make, is wearing heavy black eyeliner all over their eyes. I personally think eyes are what makes someones whole face, so the key is to highlight and enhance your best feature, not hide it behind dark makeup. It’s so much nicer to look at a clean, fresh looking face than a messy smudge under your eyes.  Using a really good mascara will help to brighten your eyes, and you’ll notice as it really changes your whole face.

All you really need for a fresh faced everyday look are three products:  foundation to create a smooth canvas, mascara to add volume and length to the lashes, and blush to give a rosy flush to your cheeks.

So when you’re getting ready for school or work on Monday morning, try skipping the eyeliner for the day. Replace it with a simple lip color, like a rosy red or a soft pink.  Adding this pop of color to your lips in place of the black around your eyes will create a balance throughout your face, and make a huge difference. It might take a while to adjust if you’re used to seeing yourself with dark eyes, but give it a few days, and I can guarantee you’ll love your look so much better.
